چکیده

A first-principles understanding of the equation of state (EOS) of hot QCD is of great interest in order to reliably identify and calculate experimental signatures of that elusive state in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. However, perturbative results show bad convergence, and current experiments only probe that non-perturbative temperature regime close to the critical temperature Tc where the underlying physics, the confinement and chiral symmetry breaking mechanism, is not sufficiently understood. Phenomenological models incorporating as much physics as is known are therefore necessary. Here, we propose a new quasiparticle model of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) that incorporates a parametrization of confinement, supplemented by thermal masses compatible with lattice results. Details can be found in [1]. From asymptotic freedom, we expect that at very high temperatures the plasma consists of quasifree quarks and gluons. As long as the spectral function of the thermal excitations at lower temperatures resembles qualitatively this asymptotic form, a quasiparticle description of the QGP is expected to be applicable. Their dispersion relation reads

We propose a novel quasiparticle interpretation of the equation of state of deconfined QCD at finite temperature. Using appropriate thermal masses, we introduce a phenomenological parametrization of the onset of confinement in the vicinity of the phase transition. Lattice results of the energy density, the pressure and the interaction measure of pure SU(3) gauge theory are well reproduced. A re...

Phases of QCD , Thermal Quasiparticles and Dilepton Radiation from a Fireball ∗ )

We calculate dilepton production rates from a fireball adapted to the kinematical conditions realized in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions over a broad range of beam energies. The freeze-out state of the fireball is fixed by hadronic observables. We use this information combined with the initial geometry of the collision region to follow the space-time evolution of the fireball. Assuming e...

Thermodynamics of QCD at large quark chemical potential

We review the existing weak-coupling results on the thermodynamic potential of deconfined QCD at small and large quark chemical potential and compare with results from lattice gauge theory as well as the exactly solvable case of large-N f QCD. We also discuss the new analytical results on non-Fermi-liquid effects in entropy and specific heat as well as in dispersion laws of quark quasiparticles...

Polyakov loop, Quasiparticles and QCD Phase Diagram

QCD thermodynamics has been the subject of intense investigations in recent years. In order to interpret corresponding lattice QCD results the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model is a promising field theoretical quasiparticle model [1, 2, 3, 4] combining the two principal non-perturbative features of lowenergy QCD: confinement and spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. In the ...
